As you begin your Paleo Way journey, I cannot stress enough how important it is that you remain present. You will be experiencing a whole new world of food and fitness, gaining a wealth of information that will serve you for the rest of your life. By remaining present in each and every moment, you will be able to feel the joy, energy and passion that this new vibrant lifestyle brings. For me, first and foremost being present is allowing yourself to sit within each moment of every day and allowing what feelings, experiences and emotions that come over us to come and go as they need to. Not blocking anything out, or pushing anything away, just being actively focused on what we are doing, how we are feeling and who we are. I guess you could call it truly living in the moment, and taking each moment and day in time as it comes. Removing expectations of what we think we should be feeling or doing, more so allowing life to take us in the direction it is supposed to go.

By being present we truly feel, and by feeling, we learn and grow as people.

Let’s take changing your eating habits as an example of when being present can be utilised. There are an abundant amount of delicious recipes you will consume on this journey together, and by allowing yourself to experience these new foods in a conscious and present state, you will feel how good your body reacts and how real food can nourish your body, both inside and out. It is when we are truly present that we can control what decisions we make about food, and then realise the amazing positive effects it can have on us. Therefore leading us to make smarter choices down the track and building healthy habits that will stick with us for life.

To give you an example of what the opposite would be if we simply coasted through our day without listening to our body, how we feel, or what we need for nourishment. If we allowed the stress of our busy daily lives to dictate our nutrition choices rather than being actively present in feeling and knowing what our body wants, we might make food choices we could regret. By not being present, we jeopardise the value we put on how good we should actually feel.

Being present can be utilised in all aspects of our lives, not just our nutrition. It is a really useful tool for managing stress and anxiety. Because rather than suppressing feelings and making decisions out of fear, we accept where we are at, experience each moment for what it is and have the ability to live our best life.
