With our phones making us contactable 24/7 ranging from friends on facebook, to work emails at night, we live in a day and age that very rarely do we just turn off and switch off, having much needed down time. It is the downtime where we allow our minds to replenish and repair from all of our daily stressors that come from this modern, technologically advanced world we now live in.

I can say first hand that being connected to our phones and computers around the clock can contribute to stress and anxiety.

That constant feeling of being contactable adds pressure whether it be demands from friends, family or work.

I pose a question to you today; how good would you feel if you switched some of your devices off for a little while each day, and allowed your mind to have a rest and really truly connect to how you are feeling and what you are doing?

Lets take going for a simple walk down the street to get groceries as an example. Often, I see people, and I have done this myself, spend the whole journey staring at a smartphone. Refreshing facebook or instagram, or responding to emails the minute they come through. Before we know it, we have made it to the shops without taking in and experiencing anything on the entire journey. In fact it is quite possible we may have nearly got run over twice and even knocked into a few people from simply not looking up.

That isn’t living. That isn’t being present, and I tell you what, I believe that type of addiction to technology just adds to the stress we already experience on a day to day level. So I believe we should all commit to having designated down time from technology. Switch off, get outside and truly live. Hey, you might even see some amazing nature on your next walk to the shops. Or perhaps you will actually develop deeper connections and conversations with the loved ones around you if at a cafe you sit and chat, not sit on your phones.

Switch off guys, and see what it does to your mind and soul. I assure you it will give you a huge sense of peace and relief from stress and anxiety, simply being in your own world without distraction or stressors entering your every moment.
