Why being active is more important than exercise!

Why being active is more important than exercise!

Hey tribe! So often people associate exercise with dreaded hard work, early mornings and something they struggle to keep up with. In addition to this, so many people see age, injury or fitness level as a roadblock to partaking in exercise. That’s why I think it is important to clear up right now, that simply being active is way more important than exercising, and by readjusting our thinking we can all be happier, healthier and fitter than ever before. Lets take a closer look.

Hey tribe! So often people associate exercise with dreaded hard work, early mornings and something they struggle to keep up with. In addition to this, so many people see age, […]

As mentioned briefly above. Exercise has evolved to earn itself a bit of a negative public image. From mud-ridden boot camps with a military style trainer standing over you shouting; to an excruciating high cardio class at the local gym that makes your heart literally jump out of your body with intensity! It can often be really hard to know where to start in the health and fitness world when you are told you need to exercise, especially if you don’t feel fit or confident enough to jump in head first. So more often than not, people put it in the ‘too hard basket’ and relegate exercising back to the i’ll get round to it eventually pile. Along with cleaning the garage, folding your undies and sorting out the herbs and spices cupboard.

Well, I am probably the first trainer to ever tell you that I don’t want you to exercise! Honestly, I don’t. Cut your gym card in half like an over swiped credit card after a holiday in Europe, and toss all those late night home shopping network pieces of junk from under the bed into the bin! And no, I am not saying that instead you should sit down and switch on the TV,  open a packed of cheezels and make your fingers yellow! I am telling you simply to be active. What does being active mean exactly?

Being active is simply moving your body in a functional way that is suitable for your age, health condition and circumstances that you enjoy. There is no right or wrong way to move your body, in fact I believe it can truly be what ever it is that floats your boat. For me it is heading to the gym, pushing some weights and taking part ins one rowing training, whereas for my mum it is walking her beautiful dog and going to yoga twice a week. Heck it might even be as simple as doing some stretches and meditation. make it fun, make it practical and make it something you look forward to.

Like all elements of your health, it is up to you to take being active into your own hands. Be empowered to understand what works for YOU, and YOUR body, and make smart, informed decisions around that. You’ll be surprised when you realise how good it feels to get outside and make the most of each and every day in a way that you perhaps were not taking advantage of sooner. Live your best life legends!
